Hall announces that 2017 will be his last season

SAN DIEGO - Point Loma head women's soccer coach Tim Hall has announced that he will retire from his position at the end of the 2017 season, and continue as a full-time member of the PLNU faculty. His faculty responsibilities will be a full teaching load. As part of his teaching responsibilities he will be the athletic department Chaplain, beginning in January 2018.

"I am extremely thankful to Tim for the outstanding work he has done with our soccer programs," said Point Loma Athletic Directory Ethan Hamilton, "yet I am also ecstatic about his willingness to serve in a growing role - primarily focused on meeting and mentoring our student-athletes as well as assisting me in engaging conversations with our coaches, staff and others on-campus."

Hall has been with Point Loma Nazarene University nearly his entire career, stretching from his graduation (1984) to coaching the men's team for 16 seasons and the women's team for the last nine. During his time with the Sea Lions, Hall posted a career record of 260-153-46. He led PLNU teams to the playoffs 21 times and to three conference titles, including the school's only two PacWest Championships. He led the team to the NAIA championship match in 2009 and to a school-record with 19 wins, while reaching two national semifinals.

Hall is a four-time conference coach of the year, including back-to-back seasons in the PacWest. He also earned the NAIA Coach of Character award. Hall also takes great pride in the academic success of his teams, and has guided the Sea Lions to back-to-back NSCAA Team Academic Awards as well as numerous student-athletes to PacWest and Regional All-Academic honors.

One of his great joys was watching his teams serve in international missionary work. Hall's teams made eight LoveWorks trips. They took five trips to South Central Africa for mission work: in the summer of 1998, 2003, 2006, 2013 and 2016. Three of his squads have made similar mission trips to Brazil in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

"Coaching the soccer programs at Point Loma Nazarene University has been one of the greatest joys of my life," said Tim Hall. "All the credit goes to those student-athletes that have played for me. I am so thankful for all of them and all the hard work they have put in.

"I am excited about the future, it is bittersweet for me, but it is a great opportunity," explained Hall. "I have given it a lot of thought and prayer, and it is best thing moving forward.

"I am thankful to all the PLNU employees that have had significant support in this transition," Hall continued. "I also want to thank my wife, Tracy, and my children, Tyler, Tara and Kallie, and also my grandson Tyler James. Most importantly I want to thank the Lord for His faithfulness."

Point Loma will begin a national search for the new head coach of the PLNU women's soccer program following the 2017 season.
