SAN DIEGO - Point Loma Nazarene University was proudly represented by women's basketball student-athlete
Anna Viettry on the list of nominees for the 2016-17 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Viettry was a four-year letterwinner for the Sea Lions and graduated in May of 2017 with a 3.91 grade point average as an Exercise Science major. She was the captain on a team that went 24-6 and made the NCAA West Regional for the second time in three seasons. Viettry started all 30 games for the Sea Lions at the point and helped PLNU hold opponents to just 60.1 points per game. She placed her name fifth in the school record books with 12 assists in a game against Concordia. In the classroom she was a four-time PacWest All-Academic selection.

The San Diego native (Granite Hills HS) stepped into multiple leadership roles on campus. She was the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in 2016-17 after serving as the vice president the previous year. During that same time, Viettry was a committee chair on the PLNU Student Senate and served in the roles of both secretary and treasurer for the PacWest SAAC board.

Viettry also led on-campus Bible studies, served as the team captain, went on a mission trip to Haiti and worked with both the Special Olympics and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She was nominated for the Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams®, which recognizes players at all levels of college basketball whose charitable involvement and altruistic acts, and she received a postgraduate scholarship to the NCAA Career in Sports Forum in Indianapolis in early June.

Established in 1991 and now in its 27th year, the NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

The top 30 honorees will be recognized and the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced at the annual award ceremony Oct. 22 in Indianapolis.
