It was significant when Coach Ben Foster was able to recruit Don Bickett for the Crusaders in 1982 and 1983. Don was an outstanding basketball player, very exciting and athletic, filling the tough role as inside player for PLC after transferring from Glendale Junior College. Don was a quick, strong, hardworking player with great leaping ability. As a key player for the Crusaders he helped lead the team to an NAIA District 3 Championship and a return to the NAIA Nationals in Kansas City in 1983. He was a great rebounder, especially on the offensive boards, a good defensive player and shot blocker.
Don’s two year stats at Point Loma included an average of 13 points per game, 7 rebounds per game and a 57% field goal shooting percentage which still ranks #2 in the PC/PLNU all time record book. Don was twice selected as the team Most Valuable Player, All-League twice, All-District twice, Honorable Mention NAIA All-American, and NCCAA All-American. He was also a member of the PLC Surf Team.
Don was a great player on a well-balanced Championship team. He played professional basketball in Australia for 10 years after college. His teams there won a QBL State Championship and a CBA National Championship. He lives in Australia, works with Micronet and still surfs and plays basketball. Don’s family includes his wife Alicia, son Brock and daughter, Cianna.
Don it is with deep appreciation for you as an outstanding basketball player at Point Loma Nazarene University that we induct you into our Athletic Hall of Fame as a basketball Athlete. Congratulations
