The Pasadena and now Point Loma athletic program and the name Meguiar have been linked together and readily recognized for the past 52 years. The Meguiar support for PC and Point Loma sports is unmatched. In the early days when the Crusaders were beginning to be recognized for basketball, the influence of Malcolm Meguair was enthusiastic and significant. It would be difficult to really know just how many athletes have been able to attend out college through contributions by the Meguiars.

Quietly and behind the scenes, Meguiar has provided tuition assistance to several outstanding athletes in need. The sponsorship of AAU summer and off season basketball teams allowed many Pasadena stars to develop dramatically. The Pasadena players in the Meguiar-purchased uniforms were the cream of the crop in the ‘50s throughout southern California .

In a more formal move to assist the 1951 Frank Meguiar Memorial Most Outstanding Athlete Award, Meguiar has been instrumental in making the award an annual gift, in memory of his father. In 1970, when Maurice, Meguiar’s brother passed away, the award become simply the Meguiar Memorial. It was a more appropriate title since the entire family has proven committed to serving Point Loma athletics.

Meguiar was also one of the most significant people involved in the formation of the Crusader Club. He helped design the club medallion which is now seen on each award presented from the group.

Meguiar was presented with the Meritorious Service award by Rick Mallicoat.
