Through the years there have been many outstanding baseball players at Point Loma Nazarene College, but the premier pitcher in Crusader history would have to be Marty Decker. His superior pitching skills earned many victories for the Crusader baseball team.

Decker holds most of the Crusader pitching records, including most wins in a career with 37, most wins in a season (11), most career innings (495) and most career appearances (89). He also holds the record for most strikeouts in a game, season and career and has one no-hitter. Decker earned a career ERA of 2.16 and was a three-time All-District, All-American performer. He was selected for the Meguiar Award in 1977-78.

At the conclusion of his college career, Decker was drafted and signed by the Philadelphia Phillies. After three years he was traded to the San Diego Padres where he briefly made the Major League team. An arm injury requiring surgery forced his premature retirement.

Decker kept the Crusaders in the playoffs all four of his years at Point Loma. He was one of the most respected pitchers in Southern California during his baseball career.

Decker and his wife Julie settled in Yuba City with their children: Haley, Dusty, Amber, Randy and Ryan.
