Sea Lions Improve to 2-0 After Topping SDCC

The Sea Lions fought through temperatures that reached 110 degrees in the East County to beat San Diego Christian 3-1 in a non-conference match Friday afternoon. PLNU improved to 2-0 with the triumph.

Lauren Hernandez and Lauren Abarca combined for two goals with Kelsey Lundberg and Kari Moore teaming for the other.

The first goal of the game came in the 39th minute. Hernandez sent a corner kick in to Abarca who pushed the ball past SDCC keeper Emily Garbez. Hawk forward Hannah Waggoner evened the score with two minutes to go in the half to knot the contest at 1-1 at the break.

After intermission and at the 51 minute mark was when Moore put PLNU up for good after sending in a pass from Lundberg. Three minutes later Arbarca drove in the final goal of the game, Hernandez with the assist.

Freshman Tiffany Kracy earned her second win in goal for PLNU, saving eight shots. SDCC's Garbez has eight saves as well.

The Sea Lions outshot the Hawks 13-10 and 11-9 on goal. PLNU also had a 6-1 advantage.

Point Loma returns home for a 4:00 pm on Thursday vs. Southern Nazarene.
