(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Men's Soccer midfielder
Simon Sagal was selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® Third Team, as announced on Tuesday.
The award is voted on by CSC members for a combination of academic and athletic excellence.
Players are eligible to be nominated for the award if they have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50, are at least a sophomore academically and athletically, and competed in 90% of the team's games (or started in at least two-thirds of contests).
Sagal put together a stellar season both on the field and in the classroom, with his cumulative 3.89 GPA. He becomes the second Sea Lion in program history to earn Academic All-America® honors, joining Wiktor Lasota in 2018.
On the season, Sagal tallied three goals and eight assists, ranking second in the PacWest in assists. All eight of his assists came during conference play, as the sophomore midfielder played a leading role in PLNU's second straight PacWest title.
Sagal was also selected to the D2CCA All-West Region and All-PacWest First Teams.
Point Loma finished the year with an 11-4-3 overall record after making a second consecutive NCAA Super Region 4 postseason appearance.
