Sami Swanson, a freshman midfielder from Huntington Beach, Calif. (Marina High School), scored the game-winning goal in the Sea Lions' season opening victory against Cal State Dominguez Hills. With the match still scoreless in the 53rd minute, Dottie Rhoten crossed the ball over the scrum of players in the box over to Swanson streaking towards the far post for the header goal. It was the first career goal for Swanson and it helped PLNU pick up a crucial win over a California Collegiate Athletic Association opponent.
