Mission Statement
PLNU champions a Christ-centered environment where student-athletes experience holistic growth while pursuing academic and athletic distinction.
About PLNU Athletics
As a member of the NCAA Division II PacWest Conference, PLNU fields teams in baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, track & field, volleyball, golf and cross country. Since 2014, PLNU has had 27 former student-athletes go on to play professional sports, 39 All-Americans, 21 conference championships, and 6 NCAA Championships appearances. In addition to being home to what is commonly referred to as "America's Most Scenic Ballpark," PLNU offers beautiful athletic facilities that include Golden Gymnasium, a soccer field, track, and tennis courts that overlook the Pacific Ocean. We champion a Christ-centered environment where student-athletes experience holistic growth while pursuing success on the fields and courts, in the classroom, and in the community. Since joining the NCAA, PLNU student-athletes have a combined GPA of 3.52, regularly have the highest Academic Success Rate in the nation and have earned the NCAA President's Award for Academic Excellence in each of the past 10 years.
PLNU moves to NCAA Division II
The Point Loma athletic program officially became an active member in NCAA Division II on Sept. 1, 2014. It has been a member of the Pacific West Conference since in the fall of 2012. The university fields 11 intercollegiate sports teams: men's and women's soccer, women's cross country, women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball, women's golf, baseball, men's and women's tennis and women's track & field.
Athletic History at Point Loma
PLNU made the jump to NCAA Division II, and in turn the PacWest, beginning in 2011-12. Prior to the move to the NCAA Point Loma competed in the Golden State Athletic Conference and the NAIA. During their 26 years in the conference (1986-2012) PLNU claimed 43 GSAC regular-season championships and boasts eight National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic Hall of Fame athletes and coaches.
