Welcome to the Green Sea.

The Green Sea is the student cheering section at all games, matches, and sporting events that the Sea Lions compete in. These students come cloaked in Green & Gold ready to support their classmates. The Green Sea has been loyal supporters of Sea Lion athletics at volleyball, basketball, soccer, track, tennis and baseball.

The leaders of the Green Sea go by the Green Sea Hooligans named after the early 2000’s movie, The Green Street Hooligans.

Hooligans is also a term that is used to describe European soccer fans who go crazy at every game and even end up breaking and throwing things, though Alexa Wise, former Director of School Spirit, says they don’t get that crazy.

11986Wise is the head of the Green Sea Hooligans this year. She organizes events, attends every sporting event, and gives it her all to cheer on her fellow classmates.

The Green Sea was created after Point Loma joined the NCAA for sports. The founders of the Green Sea wanted students of PLNU to get them more involved in the school’s sports.

“Point Loma did join NCAA and we were excited to get students more excited about sports and create a culture of sports,” Wise said.

The Green Sea began on Friday, September 16th, 2011 vas a way to bridge the gap between athletics and the student body.  The idea was sparked in combination of ASB and the women’s volleyball team in order to promote more school spirit and bring further excitement to games. The Green Sea officially came into existence on Sept. 16th when women’s volleyball played Westmont.

“We can’t control how the teams do but we can control our attitudes about it,” Wise said.

No matter how the sports teams at PLNU are doing, there is the Green Sea ready to cheer them on and ready to support their classmates and friends.

Also, the Green Sea is not only there to leave an impression on the student body, they are there to connect with the other people who had come out to watch the games.

“I mean it’s fun to watch, but even if it’s not a great game, just getting the chance to spend time with the Point Loma community, and meeting people that maybe wouldn’t go to other events but love sports, it’s been a cool experience,” Wise said.

To join the Green Sea, grab your Green & Gold, find the student section and introduce yourself. All you have to do is cheer for your team and be a proud Sea Lion.
