Paul Sweet scored both goals in Point Loma's season-opening 2-1 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills in a match that featured two teams that competed in the 2017 NCAA West Regional. Sweet scored the first goal of the season in the eighth minute, redirecting a pass inside the box to the back post to take a 1-0 lead. After the Toros equaled the score, Sweet delivered the game-winning goal. Point Loma earned a corner kick in the 83rd minute and Sweet got his head on the ball and put it into the goal to give PLNU a 2-1 triumph. These were the first two goals of Sweet's career and it extended the Sea Lions' regular season unbeaten streak to 17 matches.
