Dwayne Cosby

Dwayne Cosby enters his third year as an assistant coach with the PLNU women's basketball team in 2015-16. Cosby works with recruiting, scheduling and performs other administrative duties.

In his second team with the team, PLNU posted a 20-12 record, placed third in the PacWest conference standings (15-5) and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA West Regional. At the regional, PLNU faced the No. 1 team in the country, Alaska Anchorage, on their home floor and the Sea Lions pull out one of the biggest wins in the history of the program. PLNU jumped out to a 14-0 lead and led by as many as 19 (31-12) in the first half against the Seawolves. UAA chipped away at the Sea Lions' lead and took its first lead at 63-62 on a 3-pointer with 9.1 left. PLNU called a timeout and Rustamzada went the length of the floor off the inbounds pass to hit a spinning, right handed layup with 2.1 left to stun the home crowd. A failed half-court shot by the Seawolves at the buzzer then sealed the victory for the Sea Lions.

Point Loma is now 39-22 overall and 28-12 in the PacWest Conference during Cosby's tenure and have reached the playoffs both seasons. He helped guide Jessica Escorza to a first team All-PacWest selection and Roya Rustamzada to PacWest Freshman of the Year honors.

Prior to PLNU, Cosby was at San Diego Christian for two years and at California Baptist. He also has spent time NCAA Division III La Sierra University.

Cosby played his collegiate basketball at Riverside Community College for then head coach Bob Schemerhorn in 1998. He earned a pair of associate degrees from RCC in 1998. Following that season he signed with Vanguard (SCC) and coach Cameron Dollar. A month later, after Dollar resigned, Cosby committed to PLNU with coach John Block and allowed Cosby to connect and form a strong relationship with coach Westphal.

Originally from Philadelphia, Pa., Cosby was a prep star and a 1991 graduate of Frankford High in Philadelphia, where he earned all-city honors in basketball, playing with the likes of NBA stars Malik Rose, Cutino Mobley and Rasheed Wallace.

He is married to Nicole and the couple has three children, Imani, Dwayne and Dasia.
