PLNU's best run under Hall came in the final days of the NAIA as his teams reached the National Championships on two occasions: 2009 and 2011. In 2009, the Sea Lions played in the NAIA title game and in 2011 PLNU reached the semifinals. He is a four-time Coach of the Year, including earning the San Diego Union-Tribune Coach of the Year in 2009. He was also the NAIA Coach of Character for soccer in the same season.
He has also helped guide numerous Sea Lion student-athletes to honors, both academically and athletically. Under his guidance, Morgan Pearce earned D2CCA All-America honors in 2015 and CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in 2016 for her performance in the classroom and as a defender. In 2014, Claire Mathews earned Capital One Academic All-American third team honors. PLNU has also earned numerous PacWest special honors the since joining the league three years ago. Ariel Oriarte earned back-to-back Goalie of the Year Awards, Keagan Bolibol (2015) and Sami Swanson (2014) each earned Freshman of the Year, and Pearce (2015) and Matthews (2014) both captured Defender of the Year.
Hall also prided his team on academics. Nineteen PLNU women's soccer student-athletes earned PacWest All-Academic honors last season, matching the total from 2015. The team also posted a 3.536 cumulative grade point average to earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the second straight season.
Hall was a rock during the Sea Lions' transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II (2011-13) Hall helped guide PLNU to a 43-15-8 record and reach the playoffs in all three seasons. In 2011, Hall was named as the GSAC Coach of the Year after leading the Sea Lions to a school-record 19-2-4 mark and the program’s first-ever regular season conference title. PLNU won three matches in the NAIA playoffs to reach the semifinals before falling to Concordia (OR).
Coach Hall is also truly a founder of the Point Loma women's soccer team. He got things started as a club team four years prior to the team officially being sponsored by the university in 1999. Hall served as the coach of the women's club team while also leading the men's intercollegiate squad.
He led the men’s soccer team for 16 seasons, posting a record of 151-117-24. His overall record as head coach for both PLNU squads is 261-161-49 with 14 playoff appearances. In addition, his teams have produced numerous All-PacWest, All-GSAC, All-Region and All-American players over the years, along with many All-PacWest, All-GSAC Academic and NAIA Scholar Athletes.
A 1984 PLNU graduate, Hall received his master’s degree in Christian Ministries from Point Loma Nazarene University and earned his doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and Management from Alliant International University. His dissertation work was in the area of the Character/ Spiritual Formation of Athletes. He also led the `83 team to PLNU’s first play-off berth in school history. Hall capped off his collegiate career with a senior season that included NAIA All-District 3 Honors and was voted the team's Most Valuable Player.
In 1996, Hall returned to his alma mater to take over the men’s soccer team. He guided the program to 10-plus wins in most seasons, a school-best 14 victories in 1998 and 10 shutouts in 2006. His teams were known for their tough brand of soccer on the field and their community service and global perspective off the field.
Hall's teams have taken five trips to South Central Africa for mission work: in the summer of 1998, 2003, 2006, 2013 and 2016. Three of his squads have made similar mission trips to Brazil in 2009, 2010, and 2011. It was in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi, in South Central Africa, where Hall spent the first 14 years of his life as a missionary child and got his start with soccer.
When not attending to his soccer duties Hall teaches psychology at PLNU. Upon retiring as the head coach of the Sea Lions women's soccer team following the 2017 season, Hall will move into a full-time teaching role. He will also serves as the athletic department chaplain.
