BOX SCORE
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The NAIA No. 21-ranked Sea Lions were on the wrong end of a lopsided 5-1 score at California Baptist Tuesday afternoon. PLNU slips to 3-4-4 on the year, 1-3-2 against GSAC opposition. The No. 14-ranked Lancers upped their season record to 8-4, 3-3 GSAC.
The Sea Lions, second at the 2009 NAIA National Tournament, could find themselves ninth in the conference standings, depending on other GSAC results, and might be in danger of missing the playoffs altogether.
PLNU's defense could not contain the Lancer attack. CBU scored the first two goals of the game, in the third and 28th minutes, before Loma halved the deficit when Erica Wessels successfully executed a penalty at halftime.
The Lancers iced the match with three second-half goals, the first coming one minute after intermission. Bernadette Witz scored two goals for CBU and aided on another. Amanda Lammers, Jacquelyn Witz and Lizzy Bendrick each found paydirt as well.
California Baptist was very efficient in its shooting. Of the 13 Lancer attempts, nine were on target and five slipped into the PLNU net. The Sea Lions tried seven shots, two of which were on goal.
Tiffany Kracy made four saves for Point Loma while Katie Rumfola turned back one shot on goal for CBU.
Point Loma will host Westmont for a GSAC tilt on Saturday starting at 3:30 pm.
