PLNU Ties with Biola

Sea Lions and Eagles 2-2 in 2OT

BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Sea Lions came away with an unsatisfactory result at Biola Saturday afternoon, settling for a 2-2, double-overtime tie.

PLNU (5-4-5, 3-3-3 GSAC) will leapfrog Concordia in the conference standings, moving from the fifth slot to fourth place. But the Green and Gold needs to notch wins in order to get its RPI numbers up. With just one game left in the regular season – at Fresno Pacific - the Sea Lions might have to win out in the GSAC tournament in order to qualify for a NAIA National Championship berth.

If things stay as they are now, PLNU would host a playoff game. Concordia - which lost today - trails PLNU by one point in the standings, but could reclaim fourth place as they have two more games left to add to their points tally.

Saturday's tilt was scoreless through the opening half and into the second stanza. The Eagles (4-4-5, 1-2-5) drew first blood in the 52nd minute. The Sea Lions evened the just score12 seconds later on a goal from Lindsay Bollar.

PLNU went up 2-1 when Erica Wessels headed in a corner from Lily Rainey in minute 74. The Sea Lions could not hold onto the lead; however, allowing a goal to Sarina Coutin just six minutes later. That's how the score would remain at the end of regulation and through 20 minutes of overtime.

“It was a frustrating game,” said Coach Tim Hall. “It's nice to be in fourth place all by ourselves, but we came up here expecting a win and didn't get it done.”

Point Loma wraps up the regular season with an 11:00 am match at Fresno Pacific next Saturday.
