Women's Soccer vs. CSU San Marcos

Sea Lions and Cougars All Tied Up

One hundred and ten minutes after they started on Tuesday and all the two NAIA top-25 squads came away with was a hard-fought 1-1 tie. The No. 24-ranked Sea Lions are now 4-0-1 on the season while sixteen-ranked Cal State San Marcos is 3-2-2 on the season.

"I am proud of the way the girls played," said PLNU coach Tim Hall. "They gave it all they had against a really good team."

Unusually physical for a women's match, the two sides were called for 35 fouls which included four yellow cards.

Back and forth for the entire time, the Sea Lions drew first blood in the 38th minute. After a cross directly in front of the Cougar net, PLNU defender Katie Pedlow delivered the ball to forward Kari Moore who in turn tapped it to Lauren Abarca who sent the ball into the net.

Up 1-0 into and past intermission, the Sea Lions looked like they were on their way towards a 1-0 win. But in the 68th minute, CSSM forward Courtney Drummond broke past the PLNU defense and had only keeper Tiffany Kracy to beat. She did just that to knot the score at 1-1.

That's the way the score ended despite chances from both sides. The Sea Lions were frustrated on a couple of opportunities, especially a cross that Lindsay Bollar nearly headed into an open net.

PLNU outshot the Cougars 14-7 in the match with four on goal. CSSM keeper Kaycee Gunion made three saves to preserve the tie. Kracy made stopped one shot on goal.

PLNU hits the road for the first time this season with an 11:00 am match this Saturday in Prescott, Arizona, against Embry-Riddle.
