Tan's Goal Ends Defensive Battle at Westmont

Senior Jennifer Tan scored more than seven minutes into double-overtime to give PLNU a 2-1 win over Westmont at Lovik Field Saturday. Tan's goal snapped a 1-1 deadlock that seemed bound for a tie.

The Sea Lions and Warriors went toe-to-toe for 107 defensive-dominated minutes. Neither side managed to get on the scoreboard in the opening half and went into the break scoreless.

Both regulation goals would come in quick order. The Warriors struck in the 52nd minute when Amanda Barrett took a pass from Jenna Nelson and deposited the ball into PLNU's net. Less than four minutes later, though, Sea Lion Katie Pedlowe dribbled past the WC defense and scored to even the contest at one-apiece.

The score was the first collegiate goal for Pedlowe.

The two defenses took over again after the brief scoring stretch, keeping the score knotted at one through regulation, through the first sudden-death overtime and nearly through the second overtime. Finally, with less than three minutes remaining, Lauren Hernandez set up for a corner kick. Her lob into the box was headed in by Tan for the game-winner.

PLNU now stands at 9-3-1 overall, 4-3 against GSAC opposition while the Warriors are 4-6-1, 2-4 GSAC. The win was the fourth-straight for PLNU in conference.

The Sea Lions outshot Westmont 10-8, though the Warriors had a 5-3 shots on goal advantage. PLNU keeper Tiffany Kracy notched five saves in the win.

The Sea Lions will remain on the road for their next match, a 3:00 pm tilt this Wednesday at Vanguard.
