SAN DIEGO - A game where both teams shot 50 percent was won by NAIA No. 15-ranked Biola due its 28-of-39 shots made at the free throw line. Though Point Loma Nazarene was in the GSAC tilt to the end, it was Eagles prevailing in Golden Gym, 78-70.

BU (18-2, 8-2 GSAC) scored 18 of its final 20 points at the stripe, a result of PLNU's attempt to regain possession with as much time on the clock as possible. The only field goal by the Eagles was a dunk by David Cline with 32 seconds left in the game.

A back-and-forth effort throughout, the lead changed hands 14 times in the first half. Biola went up on a Josh Miller jumper with just over a minute remaining in the opening stanza; a lead the Eagles would hold for good.

The Sea Lions fell behind by 10 shortly into the second half but managed to stay close for the most part over the final 15 minutes. The deficit swelled to a game-high 12 at 5:41; yet PLNU continued to play hard. An and-one by Marek Klassen at 2:34 pulled the Sea Lions to within four points of the visitors to make things interesting late.

The Eagles stayed steady at the line, however, and that was close as Point Loma would get, BU winning by eight.

Klassen led all scorers with 23 points. He also pulled in seven rebounds and dished out five assists. Rhett Beal finished with 13 points, and James Hancock added 10 points and seven boards.

With 21 points and nine boards, Miller was the leading scorer and rebounder for Biola. Dwight Gordon added 20 while Cline added 10.

The Sea Lions are now halfway through the GSAC campaign and hold a 5-4 mark in conference, 9-9 overall. Loma's chances of hosting a playoff game are dwindling and get even tougher due to the fact that the second half of GSAC includes road games at ranked teams Concordia, Azusa Pacific and Biola as well as games at California Baptist, The Master's and Hope International. The latter school is PLNU's foe on Saturday, the game tipping off in Fullerton at 7:30 pm.
