box score

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – NAIA No. 16-ranked Point Loma Nazarene wrapped up the 2011 regular season in style Saturday, beating Westmont in Murchison Gymnasium 3-1 (25-20, 25-14, 23-25, 25-17). The Sea Lions, who played in their final Golden State Athletic Conference match, end the regular season with a 10-8 mark in conference, 18-8 overall.

The Warriors slip to 11-15 overall, 8-10 GSAC.

With Vanguard losing and Biola winning Saturday night, Point Loma will finish in a three-way tie for fourth in the GSAC standings. Combining that with a No. 16-ranking, the Sea Lions will probably host a NAIA Opening Round Match on Saturday, November 19.

Opening Round pairings, and berths to the final site of the NAIA National Tournament, will be announced by the NAIA on Sunday.

Maddie Dahms slammed down the first kill of the match in PLNU's five-point set one win. The second stanza was close early, but the Sea Lions ended the set on a 14-5 run.

The hardest-fought set was the third. Loma fell behind early before rallying to even the score at 6-6. Westmont would keep up the pressure though and go up by as many as four points. The Sea Lions responded once again and caught the Warriors at 20. A pair of Alyssa Dwyer kills put PLNU in front 23-21 but a four-point Warrior burst saw the home team close out the set.

The Green and Gold closed out the match with a win in the fourth set. Delaney McCraney helped with four kills over the last five points.

Dwyer and Dahms each had 13 kills to lead the Sea Lions. Tabitha Henken added 11 kills to the win. Aimee Bird had 38 assists and 16 digs with Caitlin Bernardin contributing 21 digs.
