box score

SAN DIEGO – Though they struggled on the offensive side of the court the Sea Lions defeated visiting La Sierra 61-42 Tuesday night in Golden Gymnasium. Point Loma Nazarene (3-1) blocked 13 shots and a forced 19 turnovers in the win.

Early on it seemed that PLNU was going to run away with the non-conference tilt. The Sea Lions quickly took a double-digit lead and pushed that margin to 26 points at the half. But PLNU staggered out of the gate to start the second, scoring just two points through the first five minutes.

The Golden Eagles outscored the Sea Lions 28-21 in the second but Loma's lead was never really threatened.

For the game PLNU shot just 35 percent but the Sea Lions held La Sierra to just 26 percent shooting. The Sea Lions made 6-of-23 threes and only 7-of-15 from the stripe.

La Sierra (1-7) was good on just 5-of-21 threes and were only 5-of-15 from the free throw line. Both teams had 51 rebounds.

Nyla Bailey led PLNU with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Abby Boorman scored 11 points and blocked six shots. Andrea Campbell contributed eight boards, six points and five blocks.

Joirdan Jones had nine points and 11 rebounds for La Sierra.

The Sea Lions will next host Wayland Baptist on Saturday starting at 6:00 pm. That game is part of PLNU's Homecoming.
