SAN DIEGO – Point Loma Nazarene shot just 31 percent in a 71-47 Golden State Athletic Conference loss to NAIA No. 20-ranked Westmont Saturday night in Golden Gym. The Sea Lions dropped to 6-4 overall, 0-2 in conference play while the Warriors improved to 8-1, 2-0 GSAC.

PLNU never led Saturday, falling behind by 11 points at 12:11 before cutting the gap to five late in the first half. At the break, the Warriors led 33-26 but quickly went up by double-digits once the second stanza started.

With eight minutes left in the game Westmont went ahead by 22 after a Larissa Hensley three-pointer. Two minutes later the deficit was a game-high 26, which would also be the final margin of victory for the Warriors.

Westmont was good on just 41 percent of their shots but made 8-of-19 three-pointers and went to the line 24 times, making 17. The Sea Lions were only 5-for-26 from long-range and went to the stripe only six times during the match, though they sank all six.

PLNU was also outrebounded 42-35 and had 19 turnovers which were turned into 16 points. The Sea Lion bench contributed just seven points to the team tally.

Nyla Bailey and Brianna Colon led the team with 12 points with Crissa Jackson chipping in with 10. Andrea Campbell paced Point Loma with seven rebounds with Jackson dishing out four assists.

Tugce Canitez came through with 13 points, 10 boards and four assists for the Warriors. Lisa Peterson scored a game-best 14 points.

The Sea Lions will be on the road Thursday when they play Cal State San Marcos in a non-conference tilt.  The game starts at 7:30 pm and will be held at Mira Costa College.
