LA MIRADA, CA -- Point Loma Nazarene beaten by NAIA No. 8-ranked Biola 63-40 Thursday night in the final regular season road game of the year. The point total was the lowest for the Sea Lions since a 54-39 setback in the last game of the 2006-07 season.
The NAIA No. 8-ranked Eagles (25-5, 16-4) handed the Sea Lions the conference loss, but Point Loma (12-15, 7-12) will still hang on to a ticket to playoffs.
At the end of the first half, the score was tied 24-all, and both sides had the lead three times apiece. Brittany Stanley led the team with eight points and Abby Boorman had six rebounds. However, things went south for the Sea Lions by the third minute of the second half as the Eagles kept scoring and Loma just wasn't.
The Sea Lions scored just 16 points after halftime, while the Biola put up 39. Brianna Colon had eight during the second half and just two other players—Callie Rhoads and Renee Crawford—scored at all.
PLNU shot 26.4 percent for the night, while the Eagles recorded 42.6 percent. Biola outrebounded the Sea Lions 46-32 and went to the free throw line nine more times. Jennifer French scored 25 points with eight rebounds, two assists, and four steals for the Eagles while Jessilyn Conicelli recorded 17 points, 11 rebounds, and two steals.
The Sea Lions will have their final home game at Golden Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb 26 at 5:30 pm versus Hope International.
Following Saturday's regular season finale, Point Loma will be the eighth seed in the GSAC playoffs and will travel to Azusa Pacific for an opening-round tilt.
