PLNU Snaps Losing Streak; Tops SDCC

Abby Boorman 13 points and 15 rebounds in the win

BOX SCORE

SAN DIEGO --A 55-49 victory over San Diego Christian in Golden Gymnasium Tuesday evening helped the Sea Lions finally snap a five-game losing streak.

Though Point Loma was able to come away with the win, it wasn't easy. On paper, the teams' efforts look very much the same. The lead changed 12 times throughout the game, proving that the results could have gone either way.

The Sea Lions left the court at halftime with merely a one-point advantage over the Hawks, despite getting away with a six-point lead near the middle of the half.

More control was taken by Point Loma for the duration of the second half, after flip-flopping points for the opening ten minutes. Though the Hawks weren't too far behind, they never were able to catch up, and by 27 seconds left of play, the Sea Lions had distanced themselves by ten points. Though a struggle, they toughed it out and sent the Hawks back to El Cajon with their thirteenth loss of the season.

PLNU shot 40.4 percent from the field, over ten percent better than SDCC's 29.3 percent. Surprisingly, the Hawks pulled down only two fewer rebounds than the Sea Lions' 40, and both teams' free throws were almost the same (PLNU, 60 percent; SDCC, 64.3 percent).

Crissa Jackson was the highest scorer of the night, with 18 points. The junior point guard also recorded three rebounds and four assists. Abby Boorman and Brianna Colon put up 13 points apiece and did a lot of damage under the net. Boorman had 15 rebounds and Colon had nine.

For the Hawks, Juanita Lewis, Jasmin Thomas, and Brittany Robinson all recorded ten or more points, while Lewis had seven boards. Closely behind her was Melissa Villalobos who garnered six rebounds of her own.

The win puts the Sea Lions at 5-10 in GSAC, 10-13 overall. San Diego Christian drops to 2-13 in conference, and 7-16 overall.

Point Loma will go to Santa Clarita to take on The Master's College on Saturday, Feb 12 at 5:30 pm.
