Loma Stops Biola to Stretch Win Streak to 3

Sea Lions now even in GSAC, 3-3

SAN DIEGO – Point Loma Nazarene held visiting Biola to under 20 percent shooting Saturday and won its third-straight Golden State Athletic Conference game, 54-31.


The triumph evens PLNU's conference mark to 3-3 and the team improves to 12-6 overall. Biola, which won both meetings with the Sea Lions last season, falls to 9-6 overall, 2-4 GSAC.

The game was a tight one early on, with neither side lighting up the scoreboard. With 4:22 remaining in the first half the score was 13-11, PLNU. The Sea Lions would out point Biola 12-4 down the stretch and head into the break up 25-15.

It was all PLNU early on in the second half as the Eagles didn't post a point until nearly nine minutes had expired in the second. In all Biola's scoreless run reached 10 minutes if factoring in the end of the first half.

By the time that the Eagles did score, the Sea Lions were ahead by a commanding 36-15 margin.  Point Loma's advantage moved to 29 points with 2:40 left, before settling for the final 23-point victory.

PLNU shot 47 percent from the field and were led by 21 points from Nyla Bailey. Crissa Jackson and Callie Rhoads added 11 and 10 points respectively. Andrea Campbell provided some tough defense by pulling in seven rebounds and blocking six shots.

Lauren Gustafson paced Biola with 11 points. The Eagles shot just 18 percent and that was an improvement on the 15 percent they were averaging before they made some shots late.

PLNU hosts Azusa Pacific on Tuesday, tip-off is at 5:30 pm.
