SAN DIEGO -
Kelli LeClair posted her fifth straight match with double-figure kills but it was not enough to help the Point Loma volleyball team prevent a sweep by Biola, 25-17, 27-25 and 25-23 on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
LeClair had a match-high 14 kills and just four errors to lead the Sea Lions (7-12). The Eagles' Amy Weststeyn matched LeClair with 14 kills. However, she needed only 18 swings and did not commit an error to register a .778 hitting percentage for Biola.
The victory got the Eagles (20-2) back in the win column after having their 18-match winning streak snapped at Concordia on Saturday (Oct. 6).
Nicole Eiler and
Briana Vieth tied for the PLNU team-lead with 12 digs.
Natalie Hamill added 32 assists.
The Eagles' biggest advantages were in the service and blocking departments. Biola posted seven aces compared to just two for the Sea Lions. BU also won the battle at the net, outblocking PLNU 9-6. Each point would be significant as PLNU was just edged in sets two and three.
The PLNU volleyball team will now get back on the road for a PacWest matchup. They will travel to Arizona to face Grand Canyon on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 3:00 p.m before returning home for six consecutive home contests.
