RIVERSIDE, Calif. - California Baptist made Bernadette Witz's goal in the 23rd minute stand up against the Point Loma women's soccer team to win the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) West Region on Saturday, Nov. 17.
Witz, who was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Year earlier in the week, found the back of the net after a pair of nice passes from Kelly Jenks and Rosie Nakata for her 13th goal of the season. The score came on a goal kick in which Nakata boomed the ball downfield and Jenks touched it ahead to Witz for the goal scoring opportunity.
The Sea Lions' best scoring chances came in the second half when they outshot the Lancers 6-2, including three shots on goal.
Kelly Christerson registered two of the shots on goal, with
Amanda Mitchell taking the other.
Goal keepers
Tiffany Kracy and Rosie Nakata each made three saves for their respective teams, but it was Witz's goal that proved to be the difference maker.
Point Loma ends its season at 12-5-3 and at 9-3-2 in its first year in the PacWest. CBU will move on to play in the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. The tournament will begin Wednesday, Nov. 28.
