LOS ANGELES - Cal State Los Angeles hit a school-record 14 three-pointers to earn a 72-38 win over the Point Loma women's basketball team in the final game of the CSULA Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday, Nov. 24.
The loss is the Sea Lions' first of the season as they fall to 2-1. The win keeps the Golden Eagles perfect at 4-0.
Carlotta Kloppenburg had 13 points to lead PLNU in scoring for the second straight game.
Abby Boorman added a season-best 10 rebounds for the Sea Lions. Lacey Gibbons came off the Golden Eagles' bench to lead all scorers with 23 points. She hit 7-of-10 shots from behind the 3-point line.
CSULA held Point Loma to just 21 percent shooting and outrebounded them by 11 (51-40) to earn the win. The Golden Eagles never trailed in the contest.
"Give Cal State LA a lot of credit," said PLNU head coach
Bill Westphal. "They are talented, very well-coached and have a lot of depth. They win the second half of every game.
"We learned a lot from this tournament," Westphal continued. "We'll stick together and are looking forward to getting back in the gym on Monday."
The Sea Lion's next game will be Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Biola. PLNU and Biola met in the season-opener for the Sea Lions on Nov. 17 with Point Loma claiming a 59-46 win.
