Desert and the Red Storm await Sea Lions

PLNU will face Dixie State in a PacWest showdown on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

WHAT'S HAPPENING:

Pacific West Conference play will continue this week for the Point Loma women's basketball team when it travels to St. George, Utah to take on Dixie State on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 4:00 p.m. (PST). This will be the Sea Lions' second league game of the season and their first on the road.

A LOOK AT THE SEA LIONS:
The Sea Lions are 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in the PacWest. Point Loma has not played a regular season game since Dec. 1 when it defeated Azusa Pacific at home in the PacWest-opener, 61-42. Jil Haentges came off the bench to score a career-high 16 points, which included hitting 4-of-5 shots from behind the arc. PLNU held APU to just 27 percent shooting and no student-athlete reached double-figures. 

As a team, Point Loma is holding opponents to 52.4 points per game and 30 percent shooting. Only once this season has an opponent eclipsed the 60 point barrier. PLNU is also averaging 6.2 blocks per game. Nyla Bailey is leading Point Loma with 13 ppg. Carlotta Kloppenburg is the other Sea Lion averaging double-figures with 12.4 ppg and a team-leading 14 treys. Abby Boorman paces the team in both blocks (2.6) and rebounds (6.8). Savannah Erskine leads PLNU in assists (19) and free throw percentage (.857).

SCOUTNG DIXIE STATE:
The Red Storm are riding a four-game winning streak. They are 5-3 on the season and 3-0 in the PacWest. Johnna Brown leads DSC in scoring and rebounding with 13.3 ppg and 11.6 rpg, respectively. Kaylah Miller (12.7) and Mandy Munns (10.0) are also averaging in double-figures. As a team, Dixie State is averaging 75.4 ppg and shooting 43 percent from the field. They are outrebounding their opponents by 7.1 per game but are also averaging 4.2 more turnovers than the competition. 

NEXT GAMES:
Following this road trip, PLNU will play a few non-conference games starting on Tuesday. It will travel to Azusa Pacific to play in the APU Classic, Dec. 18-19. The Sea Lions will open with Cal Poly Pomona on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. and then face George Fox on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
