SAN DIEGO – The Point Loma women's soccer team notched the school's first ever NCAA DII win on Saturday by defeating Colorado Christian 1-0. The lone goal of the day for the Sea Lions came with just four minutes remaining in regulation.
After outshooting the Cougars 21-1 (6-0 shots on goal), the Sea Lions scored a lone goal in the final four minutes of the match to ensure a 1-0 victory.
Fresh off of Thursday's season-opening loss to Cal Poly Pomona, the win evens the women's record at 1-1.
18 shots were taken by the Sea Lions before freshman
Amanda Mitchell finally sealed the deal with just minutes remaining. Mitchell took a cross from newcomer
Natalie Swift and smashed the ball into the right side of the Cougar net.
Colorado Christian struggled offensively, managing only one shot in 90 minutes of play, stifled by PLNU's stingy defense all day.
Caitlyn Moses had five saves for Colorado Christian to keep the game close.
Next up, the Sea Lions will host Central Washington University on Tuesday, Sept 4 at 4:30 pm.
