SAN FRANCISCO--Jessica Van Loo knocked in a shot off a corner kick from 16 yards out to account for the game's only score as Point Loma Nazarene University moved to 4-1 on the season with a 1-0 win over the Academy of Art on Saturday afternoon.
The victory also improved the Sea Lions Pacific West Conference record to 2-0 in 2012. The host Urban Knights fell to 0-2 in the PWC and dropped to 2-4 overall.
Van Loo picked up a ball that caromed off several defenders on a corner kick, and then drilled it in the net past Academy of Art goalkeeper Rachael Rempe for the only score that the Sea Lions would need. Rempe was busy throughout the match, saving nine Point Loma shots as PLNU outshot Academy of Art 11-2 in shots on goal. Overall, Point Loma had 20 shots in the match to Art's five.
Senior PLNU keeper
Tiffany Kracy posted her third shutout of the year and had two saves in the process.
The Sea Lions now return home from their first-ever Pacific West road trip to host Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday (Sept. 22) at 1:30 p.m.
