AZUSA, Calif--The Point Loma Nazarene University women's volleyball team saw a familiar foe in its first-ever Pacific West Conference match, falling to Azusa Pacific 25-22, 25-23, 17-25, 25-18 on Saturday afternoon at the Felix Events Center on APU's campus.
The victory moved the Cougar's record to 9-2 on the season and to 1-1 in the PWC. In dropping its first conference match of 2012, PLNU also fell to 3-6 on the year.
The hosts led from start to finish to win a tight first set, and broke open a 21-21 tie in set two with a pair of Joy Reinke kills to lead 2-0. In set three, the Sea Lions used two late kills and two aces from
Delaney McCraney to claim a 25-17 win, but the Cougars finished off their visitors by racing out to a 6-1 lead in the fourth set and never trailed from there to nail down the victory.
Reinke led all players with 18 kills. McCraney had 12 kills for PLNU, as did
Kelli LeClair. Sea Lion middle blocker
mcKensey Wise had 11 kills and a .500 hitting percentage and Briana Vieth was also in double figures with 10 kills.
Kelsey Barker had four aces for Point Loma and
Nicole Eiler paced the defense with 18 digs.
PLNU will now return home for a Wednesday night match (7 pm) against Academy of Art and will then host Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday (Sept. 22) at 3 pm.
