Sea Lions roll to sweep over NDNU

[Box score]

SAN DIEGO - Heather Leavitt and Kelli LeClair each had 13 kills to lead Point Loma to a 25-17, 25-14 and 25-21 sweep over Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday (Sept. 22).

This was the first PacWest Conference win in school history for Point Loma volleyball which moved to 5-6 on the season and to 1-1 in conference play. The loss drops NDNU to 1-10 (0-3 PacWest).

"You always have to play with pride when you are at home and defend your home floor," said Point Loma head volleyball coach Sarah Gustin. "We want this to be a place that is hard for people to come play."

Leavitt slammed down her 13 kills while making just one error in 22 attempts. Her .545 hitting percentage paced a Sea Lions' squad which outhit the Argonauts .376 to .200. She also added a team-leading 14 digs for the double-double. Kelli LeClair had just four errors to go along with her 13 kills for a .360 attack percentage, while Brianna Vieth had seven finishers without an error.

"We talked about playing with confidence and pride from the start to put the pressure on the other team," Gustin said. "I think we did a very good job every set coming out and playing one point at a time to really put the pressure on them."

Natalie Hamill dished out a match-high 31 assists for the Sea Lions. Nicole Eiler's three aces helped PLNU outscore NDNU 7-0 in service aces.

Point Loma will now prepare to continue PacWest play on the road when it travels to Cal Baptist on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7:00 p.m.

"Cal Baptist is a very good team but with two wins in a row that helps build momentum," noted Gustin. "If we can play like we did today we have a good chance at getting a road win."
