POMONA, Calif--Point Loma dropped the first set but righted the ship to claim three straight games and a 3-1 volleyball victory over Cal State San Marcos on Friday morning at the Pacific Coast Classic.
The Sea Lions, who will play Cal State Dominguez Hills later today, topped the Cougars 22-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-21. Freshman
Kelli LeClair, who had 32 kills on Thursday night during a five-set loss to host Cal Poly Pomona, led her squad again, this time with 17 kills. Fellow freshman
Briana Vieth added 12 kills and 11 digs for PLNU, who improved to 2-4 on the season.
NAIA No. 10 ranked Cal State San Marcos dropped to 11-4 on the year.
LeClair closed out the second set with a kill to even the match at 1-1, while Vieth did the same in sets three and four. Another freshman,
Savannah Wedemeyer, fed the duo from her setters position with 34 assists as the Sea Lions snapped a two-match losing streak.
Nicole Eiler had 12 digs to lead the defense while McKensey Wise had three blocks. Lindsey Sappington has 12 kills to lead the Cougars.
Point Loma will have a short break before taking on the Toros at 5 pm tonight. The site for their second match will be at co-host Cal State LA.
