LOS ANGELES--Point Loma won a marathon opening game but Cal State LA responded with three consecutive wins to defeat the Sea Lions 27-29, 25-23, 25-19, 25-20 at the Pacific Coast Classic on Saturday afternoon.
PLNU finished the tournament, co-hosted by CSLA and Cal Poly Pomona, with a 2-2 record and they are now 3-5 on the season. The Golden Eagles are 2-4 in 2012.
Freshmen continue to lead the way for Coach Sarah Gustin's team, paced today by
Briana Vieth's 14 kills and 23 digs. Fellow rookie
Kelli LeClair added 11 kills and 15 digs, while sophomore
Delaney McCraney contributed 12 kills.
Nicole Eiler had 19 digs for PLNU, while CSLA's Marquis Mora paced her team with 12 kills.
Point Loma will next play its first-ever Pacific West Conference match a week from today (Sept. 15) when they travel to Azusa Pacific.
