FRESNO--Callie Rhoads dropped in 16 points and her Sea Lion teammates never trailed for all but 18 seconds of the contest as Point Loma won a Pacific West Conference women's basketball game over Fresno Pacific 64-58 on Wednesday afternoon at the Sundome.
The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for PLNU, who improved to 4-5 on the season and to 2-1 in conference play. The Sunbirds remained winless on the year (0-11/0-4).
Rhoads, a junior guard from Poway, added six rebounds, had three steals and also keyed two separate runs that helped the visitors pull away from the scrappy Sunbirds.
In the first half, FPU tied the contest at 23-23 with 1:16 left before intermission on free throws by Keairra White. But Rhoads nailed a pair of three-pointers and
Savannah Erskine added a field goal as Point Loma closed the half on an 8-0 run to take a 31-23 lead into the lockerroom.
The hosts would make another valliant run at the midway point of the second half, taking its only lead of the game with 10:36 left on a trey by White. But Rhoads again helped her team regain the lead with a lay-up, jump-starting a 12-0 blitz and PLNU would never trail again.

Up next for the Sea Lions is an encounter with No. 15 nationally ranked Grand Canyon, set for Saturday (Jan. 5) at 1 pm in Golden Gymnasium.
