Cal Baptist topples Sea Lions 3-0

Box Score

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma women's soccer team fell 3-0 to California Baptist on Saturday, Oct. 19.

The loss drops PLNU (7-5-1, 6-2-1 PacWest) out of a tie for first place in the Pacific West Conference as  Cal Baptist (8-4, 7-1 PacWest) leapfrogged both Point Loma and Dixie State and move into sole possession of first place in the PacWest with 21 points.

Cal Baptist took the early lead in the 22nd minute on a goal by Kelly Jenks. It was Jenks' ninth goal of the season to extend her PacWest lead. The score remained at 1-0 until halftime.

Just 90 seconds into the second half the Lancers would extend their lead on a goal by Kitra Walters.

Point Loma would have a chance to cut the lead in half on a penalty kick attempt by Sydney Dreves in the 52nd minute. However, on the shot the Sea Lions were called for encroachment disallowing the penalty kick and keeping the score at 2-0.

CBU and Bernadette Witz would tack on one more goal in the 77th minute and go on to the 3-0 victory.

The stats for both teams were very even. Each team had 18 shots and six shots on goal, but the difference was three of the Lancers' shots found the back of the net. Rosie Nakata made six saves to earn the shutout for CBU. Herrera had three stops for the Sea Lions.

The PLNU women's soccer team will not play again until next Saturday when it travels to Dixie State for an 8:30 a.m. (PST) showdown.
