SAN DIEGO - Dottie Rhoten scored a pair of goals in the opening five minutes, and the Sea Lions women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 home win over Chaminade on Thursday afternoon.

Amanda Mitchell scored her second of the season, and Claire Mathews added a goal and an assist as the Sea Lions improved to 5-3-1 on the season, 4-0-1 PacWest.

"We just really passed the ball well and played good soccer," said Rhoten. "We really just had a lot of composure, and we won.

PLNU dominated possession throughout the contest and outshot the Silverswords (0-7-0, 0-3-0 PacWest) by a 23-4 margin. The Sea Lions also tallied eight shots on goal compared to just one for Chaminade.

The Sea Lions wasted no time putting themselves on the scoreboard. In the game's first minute Mathews played a fantastic cross across to the right side of the goal, and Rhoten punched the ball in for a 1-0 lead.

Just three minutes later, the same situation occurred on the left side of the goal, this time with Natalie Swift finding Rhoten for the quick goal. They were the third and fourth goals of the season for Rhoten, a freshman.

"I got some really good crosses from other teammates," said Rhoten. "I went front post, and they happened to go in. It was exciting. They were really good passes, so it was a good time to finish."

Despite taking a quick two-goal team, the Sea Lions continued to play hard on put pressure on the Silverswords all game. PLNU Head Coach Tim Hall said he was pleased with his team's effort.

"The girls came to play right off the bat," said Hall. "You're always fortunate when you get a quick goal like that; I think it set the tone. But the girls had a choice right there to keep going, and they didn't slow down."

In the 29th minute, PLNU struck again. This time senior Kaycie Hanlin played the ball to Mitchell making a run, and the sophomore beat the keeper to push the lead to three.

The fourth and final goal came in the 33rd minute. Swift passed to Mathews at the top of the box who fired a rocket into the back of the net. Swift finished with two assists on the day.

The Sea Lions will close out their current homestand Saturday against Hawaii Pacific. Kickoff is slated for 11:00 a.m.
