Sea Lions force 30 turnovers in 77-61 win

SAN DIEGO - Savannah Erskine paced four Sea Lions in double-figures with 17 points while Carlotta Kloppenburg knocked down five 3-pointers to lead the Point Loma women's basketball team to its third straight win in the Pacific West Conference with a 77-61 victory over Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday, Dec. 21.

The win moved the PLNU to 3-2 in the PacWest and to 5-4 overall. The loss drops NDNU to 2-8 (1-3 PacWest).

The Sea Lions entered their home opener leading the PacWest in both scoring defense and steal. They used both of these to their advantage in their defeat of the Argonauts. PLNU limited NDNU to 61 points on 31 percent shooting in the game. It also forced the Argonauts into 30 turnovers, the second-best total for the Sea Lions this season.

The game was back and forth early before PLNU when on a 12-2 run to open up a 12-point lead. The Sea Lions would take a 10-point lead into halftime and push their lead to 19 points with a 10-1 run to open the second half. This run put the Sea Lions over the top as they went on to the 77-61 win.

Erskine also had five assists and 10 steals to go along with her 17 points. Those 10 steals matched her season-best total which is the top mark in the PacWest this season. Erskine had 10 of the 22 Sea Lions' teams, which set a season-best mark.

Kloppenburg finished the game with a season-best 15 points and five rebounds. Callie Rhoads also added 13 points and Abby Boorman chipped in with 11 points and six boards.

Gabriella Rodriguez had a game-high 24 points for the Argonauts. She went 8-of-11 from the field, but also had nine turnovers.

The Point Loma women's basketball team will now go on an 11-day competition hiatus. The team will return to action on Thursday, January 2 at 5:30 p.m. against Holy Names.
