HILO, Hawaii - The Point Loma men's basketball team put together its highest scoring game in league play this season to conclude its Hawaiian road trip with a 79-61 win over Hawaii Hilo on Saturday, Feb. 16.
Weston Ehlers came off the bench to knock down 8-of-12 shots, including four from long range, to lead Point Loma with 21 points in 22 minutes played.
Sam Okhotin and
Oivind Lundestad also came off the bench to add double-figure scoring outputs with 18 and 13 points, respectively.
PLNU never trailed in the game as they scored the first seven points out of the gate. The Sea Lions would go up by as many as 14 in the first half and take a 37-24 lead into halftime. Hawaii Hilo would hit the first basket of the second half, before PLNU pushed its lead into the 20s with an 11-2 run.
The Sea Lions shot a season-best 54 percent from the field while holding UHH to 26 percent shooting. They also outrebounded the Vulcans by six (35-29) and outscored their bench 60-26.
Blair Banker finished one rebound short of matching a season-best with nine boards.
Taylor Wetherell added four steals and seven assists, while making just two turnovers.
AJ Ussery also had six dimes as PLNU had 22 assists on 33 baskets.
Four players scored 10 points apiece to pace Hawaii Hilo.
Point Loma now stands 5-18 on the season and 2-13 in the Pacific West Conference. The loss drops Hawaii Hilo to 5-17 (3-11 PacWest).
The Sea Lions' previous season-best for points in PacWest play was 69 and it came against Academy of Art on Jan. 31.
The Sea Lions will now travel to California Baptist to face the Lancers in a PacWest battle on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
