[Box score]

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Something had to give Thursday night as the Point Loma women's basketball team put its six-game winning streak on the line against California Baptist's eight-game winning streak, unfortunately for Sea Lion fans it was the Lancers which walked away with the 70-56 victory.

The win moves CBU to within half a game of Grand Canyon for first place in the Pacific West Conference with a 13-3 record (19-5 overall). The Sea Lions are now 13-11 on the season and seventh in the PacWest with a 9-7 record.

Callie Rhoads reached the 20-point plateau for the fourth time in the last six games. She hit 8-of-16 shots from the field and recorded four of the Sea Lions' nine treys in the contest.

Simone Holmes of CBU matched Rhoads each step of the way to lead Cal Baptist with 20 points and four 3-pointers. Myriah Hicks would also add 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

The Sea Lions would grab an early 6-3 advantage but CBU then went on a 24-2 run and take a 19-point lead into halftime (36-17). PLNU would have a run of its own (17-5) in the second half to cut the lead to 10 points with six minutes remaining, but Amy Browne would hit a pair of jumpers during a 6-0 Lancers' spurt to seal the game.

PLNU made just 8-of-28 shots (28.6 percent) in the opening period and reached the free throw line only once as Cal Baptist was charged with only six personal fouls in the entire contest. The Lancers also held a 50-35 advantage on the glass.

The Point Loma women's team will now return home to close out the regular season with games against Fresno Pacific and Dixie State. FPU will be in town this Saturday (Feb. 23) for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff.
