HPU edges PLNU in final minutes, 60-58

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Farbod Farman hit a layup with 10 second left to spoil the Point Loma men's basketball team's upset bid at Hawaii Pacific and give the Sea Warriors a 60-58 win on Saturday night (Feb. 9).

Following Farman's go-ahead basket, PLNU (4-16, 1-11 PacWest) got a shot to win the game but Taylor Wetherell's 3-point attempt fell off the rim as time expired. The win moved Hawaii Pacific to 8-11 on the season (5-7 PacWest).

Farman and Malte Ziegenhagen combined to score the final 13 points for HPU in a game in which neither team ever held more than a five-point lead. Farmon came off the bench for the Sea Warriors to score a game-high 23 points and grab eight rebounds, including six on the offensive glass. He hit 10-of-12 shots from the field. Ziegenhagen scored seven of his 10 points in the final five minutes for HPU.

Oivind Lundestad matched his season-high with 18 points and four 3-pointers off the bench to lead the Sea Lions. Wetherell also had 12 points and seven assists. PLNU had 17assists on 24 baskets on the evening. AJ Ussery also added 10 points and a team-high five rebounds.

The game featured 13 lead changes and 16 ties. HPU's biggest advantage came on the second chance points where they outscored PLNU 12-2.

The Hawaii road trip will continue for Point Loma at BYU-Hawaii on Monday, Feb. 11 at 9:00 p.m. (PST).
