CSULA clips PLNU 1-0 in non-conference slate

Story by Jacob Roth

Box Score

LOS ANGELES - A strong defensive effort wasn't enough for the Point Loma women's soccer as the Sea Lions fell 1-0 at Cal State Los Angeles on Tuesday night (Sept. 10).

With the result PLNU (0-3) is still looking for its first win of the season while CSULA improves to 3-0.

"They were a lot more dangerous than we were," said PLNU head coach Tim Hall. "They had a lot more on display on the attacking side of the ball."

Goalkeeper Lupe Herrera and the Sea Lions defense held the Golden Eagles at bay for nearly the entire match, despite Cal State LA firing 20 shots throughout the contest, seven on which were on goal.

However, the Golden Eagles' offensive onslaught ultimately broke the PLNU line when Amalia Arvidsson found the back of the net in the 80th minute for what would be the game's lone goal.

The Green and Gold had a few scoring chances of their own, firing six shots during the match (three on goal).

But overall Hall said it was not the kind of performance he and his team expect from themselves.

"We struggled," said Hall. "We came out in the first 10 minutes and played fantastic, but after that we had a hard time linking up balls. We didn't create a lot of chances. We've got to revisit what we're doing."

Next up for the Sea Lions is a home match Saturday against crosstown rival San Diego Christian College. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
