Box Score

BELMONT, Calif. - Amanda Mitchell and Dottie Rhoten each scored goals to lead the Point Loma women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday (Sept. 21) to complete its Bay Area road trip.

This was the third straight match PLNU has earned a result. The Sea Lions are now 2-3-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in the Pacific West Conference. The loss drops NDNU to 3-4-0 (1-1-0 PacWest).

The Argonauts got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Adriana Cortes in the 25th minute. This was her PacWest leading seventh goal of the season.

Amanda Mitchell would provide the equalizer for Point Loma right before halftime. In the 41st minute Leah Porter passed Mitchell the ball on the outside with room to fire a shot. Mitchell's deep shot found the net for her first goal of 2013 and knotted the match at 1-1 heading into the half.

Dottie Rhoten made sure that match would not stay tied long as she converted a header in the 48th minute off a corner kick from Claire Mathews to put PLNU in front 2-1. This was the first goal in the freshman Rhoten's career and the third straight match in which she has recorded a points (one goal, two assists).

Lupe Herrera and the rest of the Sea Lions' defense made sure that lead would stand up. They allowed the Argonauts to take just four shots in the second half after they had taken nine in the opening period. Herrera had a match-high seven saves in the contest.

The Point Loma women's soccer team will return to action in a week when they will take on Hawaii Hilo on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11:00 a.m.
