Box Score

CARSON, Cailf. - Cal State Dominguez Hills scored two second-half goals to earn a 2-1 win and spoil the season opener for the Point Loma women's soccer team on Thursday, Sept. 5.

The Toros (1-0) broke a scoreless tie in the 53rd minute when Janelle McGee found the net off a pass from Amanda Bolanos.

With the Sea Lions (0-1) on their heels from the goal the Toros quickly capitalized as they scored another goal in the 59th minute to seize a 2-0 lead.

PLNU would not go down that easily though. Point Loma countered back in the 64th minute when Claire Mathews found Natalie Swift for the Sea Lions' first goal of the season.

Point Loma would get one more chance to tie up the match in the 78th minute but Amanda Mitchell's shot was snared by the Toros goalkeeper to deny PLNU the tie.

Mitchell's shot was just one of three the Sea Lions had during the match as they were outshot 10-3.

Lupe Herrera made five saves for PLNU in her first career start. Jennifer Ackley had had one save for CSUDH.

This was the season opener for both teams.

The Point Loma women's soccer team will return home to face one of the West Region's top teams, No. 20 Seattle Pacific on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1:00 p.m.
