A LOOK AT THE SEA LIONS:
Last week Point Loma upset Azusa Pacific, who was previously undefeated in PacWest play, 69-61, before going on the road and falling at Cal Baptist, 72-60. PLNU is 8-7 on the season and is in sixth place in the PacWest standings with a 6-5 record.

Callie Rhoads leads PLNU and ranks fifth in the PacWest with 15.3 points per game. She is fourth in the league with both a .440 shooting percentage from 3-point range and 2.6 treys made per game. She is also ninth in minutes played (32.1). Point guard Savannah Erskine is leading the league in both steals (4.1) and assists (5.4). She is also averaging 10.9 ppg and is shooting .841 percent from the free throw line (eighth in the PacWest). Abby Boorman is leading the PacWest with 2.7 blocks per game and is 11th in rebounding (7.4).

As a team, PLNU ranks third in the PacWest in scoring defense at 65.9 ppg and leads the league in steals (12.3). They also rank second in the league in blocks (4.1), turnover margin (+3.6), 3-point percentage (.352) and 3-pointers made per game (7.8).

A LOOK AT DIXIE STATE:
The Red Storm are 7-9 this season and tied for seventh place in the PacWest with a 5-5 record. They lost back-to-back games last week to Cal Baptist and Azusa Pacific to drop below .500.

Haley Holmstead leads the PacWest in scoring at 21.8 ppg. She is the only student-athlete on the men's or women's side averaging over 20 ppg. She had the top scoring game in the PacWest this season when she dropped 42 points on Fresno Pacific in early December. She is shooting .459 from the field and .808 from the free throw line. Kaylah Miller (13.6 ppg) and Brianna White (10.7) are also averaging in double-figures. Taylor Mann leads the team in rebounds with 7.6 boards per game. As a team, Dixie State is third in the PacWest averaging 73.2 ppg.

A LOOK BACK AT PLNU VS. DSC (DEC. 14, 2013):
Jessica Escorza scored a season-high 25 points and Erin Andersen added 18 points off the bench to lead the Point Loma women's basketball team to a 73-67 come from behind win over Dixie State on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Escorsa scored 17 of her 25 points after intermission to help PLNU outscore DSC by eight points in the second half. Point Loma scored 11 of the first 13 points after the break to quickly erase a two-point halftime deficit and take a 46-39 lead.

After the teams then traded baskets the Sea Lions would put the game away with a 13-1 run. Andersen scored eight points during the run, including hitting a shot behind the arc and a traditional 3-point play. She would finish the 7-of-8 from the field and 2-of-2 from behind the 3-point line en route to scoring her career-high 18 points.

Point Loma shot 45 percent in the contest and held Dixie State to 34 percent shooting and just 24 percent from 3-point range (6-of-25). The Red Storm received nearly all their offense from Haley Holmstead and Kaylah Miller. Holmstead went 9-of-18 from the field and scored a team-high 23 points. Miller hit six treys and scored 20 points.
