Box Score LAIE, Hawaii -
Tara Kracy headed in a free kick from
Dottie Rhoten in the 80th minute to keep the Point Loma women's soccer team amongst the ranks of the Pacific West Conference's unbeaten with a 1-0 victory over BYU-Hawaii on Thursday, Oct. 9.
The Sea Lions (6-2-0, 5-0-0 PacWest) continue to set the pace in the PacWest standings with 15 points. PLNU and California Baptist (3-0 PacWest) are the only two remaining undefeated team in conference play. BYU-Hawaii is now 3-7-0 on the season and 2-3-0 in the PacWest.
The match was a battle on both sides with most of the match being played in the middle-third. It would not be until the 80th minute when Rhoten took a free kick from 40 yards out and served it into Kracy in the box for a header directly into the net. This was the first goal of the season for Kracy and the second assist for Rhoten.
With the lead the Sea Lions defense and goalie
Ariel Oriarte did not even allow the Seasiders to take another shot en route to earning their third shout in their last four contests. Oriarte had three saves in the match.
It has been that defense and timely scoring that have allowed Point Loma to put together a five-match PacWest winning streak, in which they have allowed only two goals.
"We are finding ways to get results even though we not playing to our ability," said PLNU head coach
Tim Hall. "We have found a way to get it done on this tough road trip but we still have one more to go if we want to make this trip a 100 percent success."
The Sea Lions will close out their four-match road trip to Hawaii this Saturday against Chaminade. The match will start at 6:00 p.m. (PST).
