Jessica Escorza poured in 19 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out seven assists but in the end it was not enough for the Point Loma women's basketball team to overcome Fresno Pacific on the road it fell 73-59 on Saturday, Dec. 20.

The win by the Sunbirds (2-7) evened their Pacific West Conference record at 2-2 on the season and snapped the Sea Lions' (3-7, 1-2 PacWest) bid to put together a winning streak after picking up back-to-back victories last week.

Escorza went 7-of-17 from the field, 2-of-5 from 3-point range and 3-of-4 at the free throw line. The seven assists were also a season-high.

Riley Abraham posted her best game as Sea Lion as she registered her first career double-double with 12 point and 11 rebounds.
Madison West also scored in double-figures for the eighth time in 10 games with 14 points, including hitting four 3-pointers.

However, the Sunbirds had the answer with four student-athletes in double-figures. Jenay Herring led Fresno Pacific with 17 points and nine assists. Charde Stevens added a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Dakota McLarnan came off the bench with 14 points and Keiarra had 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

PLNU held a small lead midway through the first half before FPU scored the final seven points of the half to take a 35-29 lead into the locker room. In the second half the Sea Lions hung around and cut the Sunbirds' lead to 54-50 on a 3-pointer by West with 6:53 left. FPU then responded with a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to push their lead back to 14 points and seal the game.

The Sea Lions will now take a two-week competition hiatus over the Holidays. PLNU will return to action on January 3 at Chaminade. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. (PST).Â
