SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma women's basketball team completed the home sweep of three Hawaii schools with a dominant 91-40 win over BYU-Hawaii on Saturday, Feb. 15.
The victory extends PLNU's season-best winning streak to five games. The Sea Lions are now 14-9 on the season and 11-7 in the Pacific West Conference. The loss drops the Seasiders to 2-20 and 2-15 in conference play.
Just as in their game on Tuesday against Chaminade, the Sea Lions once again received a complete team effort to earn the victory as all 12 student-athletes scored.
Jessica Escorza paced four Sea Lions in double-figures with 14 points.
Carlotta Kloppenburg added all 12 of her points off four 3-pointers, while
Callie Rhoads chipped in with 11 and
Abby Boorman with 10.
Savannah Erskine added seven assists and six steals while scoring seven points.
The size of the Sea Lions was too much for the Seasiders to handle on both the offensive and defensive ends. PLNU outscored BYUH 32-4 on points in the paint while outrebounding the Seasiders 43-38. They also held BYU-Hawaii to just 17 percent shooting in the game and to only three field goals in the second half. The final 17 points for the Seasiders all came from the free throw line.
PLNU jumped out to a 27-point lead in the first half and led 39-14 at intermission. The Sea Lions then scored the first eight points after the break to push their lead into the thirties. They would lead by as many as 52 points in the second half before settling on the 91-40 victory.
In accordance with every student-athlete getting in the scorebook for Point Loma the Sea Lions' bench outscored the Seasiders' 37-7.
PLNU will now step out of conference to face South Dakota School of Mines (8-15) on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m.
