Box Score OAKLAND - Saturday night's 25-19, 25-14 and 25-16 sweep over Holy Names gave the Point Loma volleyball team its third win in as many nights.
The Sea Lions are now 5-0 in the PacWest (8-5 overall) while the Hawks dropped to 0-6 in conference (0-12 overall).
"The conference with its Thursday, Friday, Saturday schedule is not easy on anyone," said Point Loma head coach
Jonathan Scott. "You have to be prepared mentally and physically."
"All three wins have been a test of fortitude," Scott continued. "The matches have been gritty and feisty but sometimes you have to get a win in that manner."
It was the defense that was on display for Point Loma on Saturday which allowed the Sea Lions to finish the road trip unscathed. PLNU held Holy Names to a season-low .031 hitting percentage as the Hawks had just 25 kills to go with 22 errors.
On the other side of the ball, PLNU hit .192 with 36 kills in the three sets.
Alyssa Dwyer and
Delaney McCraney led the Sea Lions with eight kills apiece.
Savannah Wedemeyer had 26 assists and three aces, and
Christin Fisher paced the team with 12 digs.
"We are going to focus only on the next match ahead," Scott explained. "We are going to enjoy this win only for tonight, but all that matters after tonight is Cal Baptist."
The Sea Lions' next match will be their annual Dig Pink event sponsored by the Side-Out Foundation on Thursday, Oct. 2 when they host California Baptist at 7:00 p.m.
"This cause is one that is bigger than athletics," said Scott. "It is great that sports, and specifically volleyball, have embraced the Dig Pink campaign to get education and awareness out there."
