Point Loma hosts Dig Pink Night Thursday, Oct. 2

SAN DIEGO - Get your pink ready! The Point Loma volleyball team will host its annual "Dig Pink" night on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 7pm in a NCAA Division II matchup against California Baptist to raise support and awareness of breast cancer. The match is shaping up to have major post-season implications as both teams are near the top of the PacWest Conference standings.

All fans attending the match are encouraged to show their support for the Sea Lions and for this noble cause, organized in conjunction with the Side-Out Foundation, by wearing pink to the match. The first 200 students in the gate will get a pink Point Loma Volleyball T-Shirt  compliments of the Point Loma Green Sea.

The Point Loma Athletic Department will be donating $1 for every ticket sold to the Side-Out Foundation in support of their efforts to fight breast cancer. Fans will also have the chance to increase the donation through in-game activities.

In addition to donning pink jerseys, each of the PLNU volleyball players will be wearing the initials of someone she knows who has been affected by cancer on the sleeve of her pre-game warm-up shirt.

The "Dig Pink" volleyball match on Thursday night will be the culmination of several days of breast cancer awareness activities on the PLNU campus starting on Tuesday.. There will be a 'Chalk Walk of Hope' occurring on campus where anyone can write down a message or draw a picture of encouragement, admiration, inspiration or in memorandum to  loved ones affected by cancer using pink sidewalk chalk.

The Sea Lions women's volleyball team claimed the NCCAA National Championship last season.. This year's team, led by two-time All-American Alyssa Dwyer and last week's PacWest Player of the Week, Heather Leavitt and is looking to claim an NCAA berth in its first year of eligibility.
